Chiara Umekubo / Week 04 /Day 03

 The Rye (story) -> This first story is an adaption of the novel "The Catcher in the Rye" -  an American classic about a boy named Holden who dropped out of his highschool and wanders new york avoiding his responsibilities and refusing to grow up. His only dream future is to be the quote "catcher in the rye" someone who saves people from falling off the edge of this rye field as symbolism for growing up and losing their childhood innocence. My story takes place in an adaption of the realm of "the rye" modified instead to be a floating jungle where souls go to grow up. Holden when he travels here however refuses to grow up and destroys the exit gate, in turn becoming an evil spirit that tries to keep other souls from leaving as well. 

The Rye (character) -> So this is holden in an evil spirit form, I wanted to focus on making his headpiece really interesting to refer to his iconic red hunting hat he has in the novel which he calls his "people hunting hat". I also tried to explore that aspect of a hunter and exagerate it to make him more menacing. The masks with many faces also portray holdens many personas he takes on throughout the novel: breaking out into impressions of various characters as well as hiding a lot of his true emotions. 

The Rye (environment)-> This is the gatehouse, basically it holds the exit from this realm and is where souls used to go to to return to the real world to grow up. Now its overgrown and the bridge to it is destroyed by holden. He cant completely destroy the gate though, due to these magical protecting totems that ensure the gate stays functional- even if it might be almost unreachable. 

Space Race (story) -> For the sake of time, this story is cut down to a human who lives in an extraterrestrial mining empire, whos central entertainment is the space race: a biannual event that brings beings from all over to put their lives on the line - a fight to the finish that promises fame, glory, and honor…and most importantly to the human: cash. A quick description for her is that shes super emotional, rages a lot, but is very dedicated to her goal and passion for the race!

Space Race (vehicle) -> I wanted her car to be a combination of those retro colorful cars and a spaceship. Because of her reckless and emotional personality, I figured she would get into crashes a lot. So i tried making her car pretty beat up but still loved. I also imagined she would give her car a human name and love it like a real friend.
